Rethink your body
To get the freedom to live the life you want

Beat bulimia - a programme to help you break free

Is this programme for me?
  • Do you feel out of control around food and constantly preoccupied by it?
  • Do you find yourself bingeing on large amounts of food in a short space of time and then feeling confused, guilty and ashamed?
  • Do you purge through vomiting, laxatives, food restriction or over-exercise?
  • Do you switch between strict dieting and uncontrolled over-eating?
  • Do you feel extremely negative about your body and worry about your weight?
  • Do you feel that bulimia is starting to affect your health and wellbeing?
  • Are these concerns affecting your relationships, career and social life?

If you are answering YES to these questions, then this programme is for you.

What does the programme involve?
  • EIGHT 1 to 1 personalised sessions with Harriet Frew. These can take place face-to-face (Cambridge or London); or by Skype, telephone or email.
  • All reading materials and worksheets to support your progress.
  • Food and feelings diary to help you become your own therapist.
  • Email support inbetween as needed.
What kind of topics do you cover?
1. Getting motivated for change and understanding what has kept you stuck
2. Food glorious food - balancing blood sugar; dealing with cravings; forbidden foods; mindful eating
3. Managing your thinking around food to deal with negative thoughts; the dieting mindset and supporting a mindful eating approach
4. Dealing with purging behaviours - vomiting, laxatives, restriction and over-exercise.
5. Developing a healthier body image
6. Self-esteem, assertiveness and well-being
7. Understand the past and make sense of this in relation to your eating problem
8. Looking to the future; dealing with relapse and self-sabotage.

How would you describe your approach?
I am qualified counsellor, and use a motivational, encouraging and supportive style of working. You will use a food and feelings diary to help you become your own therapist from the start of the programme. I help you to challenge your fears through trying out new ways of coping. I believe wholeheartedly that change is possible and that you are absolutely capable of this.  To benefit from the programme, you will need to be willing to give time and energy to working and to complete 'homework' between sessions. If you do this, you will undoubetedly reap huge benefits and see real changes occurring. Read here about other people that have walked this road before with me.

Is it possible to have more than eight sessions?
Of course, if you decide that you would like to have further sessions or cover any specific areas in more depth, then this can be arranged.

Who is this programme not suitable for?
If you are struggling with bulimia and/or self-harm, alcohol and drug use, you are less likely to gain benefits from this type of programme and may need different support. If you are very underweight, this may also be a barrier to engage fully in therapy. Also, if you are hoping for a 'magic wand' and feel reluctant to let go of your eating problem (which can be very understandable), then you might also wish to seek out more long-term and other specialist support. If you are unsure about your own personal situation, please do get in touch about this.

What is the cost of the programme?
